People wonder how often they should clean their carpets or upholstery.
That’s a good question that varies depending on usage and environment. For example, upholstery that is outdoors like the pieces above should be cleaned frequently and covered when not in use. And high traffic areas, homes with children and pets, and homes or facilities where there is a good deal of cooking may need more frequent attention.
Here are EPA suggested intervals for carpet and furniture cleaning:
Family residence – Carpet every 6 – 12 month, upholstery 3 years
Family residence with children and pets – Carpet every 3 – 6 months, upholstery every year (or more if required due to spills, accidents, etc.)
Office building – Carpet every 6 – 12 months, upholstery every 6 months
Commercial – Carpet every 3 – 6 months, upholstery every year
Infrequent carpet cleaning diminishes the life of the carpet, and may also lead to poor indoor air quality.
